IIT Roorkee, University of Calgary Sign Agreement for Joint Doctoral Degree Programme

IIT Roorkee and University of Calgary have signed an agreement to launch a Joint Doctoral Degree Programme (JDDP), strengthening academic and research collaboration between India and Canada. The agreement was signed during a ceremony held in Calgary, Canada. This new Joint Doctoral Degree Programme will provide a platform for students and researchers from both institutions to work together on advanced research projects. The partnership aims to increase academic exchange, promote joint research and develop technologies that can address global challenges.

Under this collaboration, research will focus on several emerging and important areas, including sustainable development, clean energy, circular economy, water and wastewater management and critical minerals. The programme will also support research related to technologies that are important for the growth of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The partnership will not be limited to academic research. IIT Roorkee and the University of Calgary will also focus on converting research outcomes into practical, technology-based solutions. Innovation, entrepreneurship, technology commercialisation and the wider social impact of research will be key areas of the collaboration.

Through Joint Doctoral Degree Programme, doctoral students will get an opportunity to receive joint supervision from faculty members of both institutions. They will also gain exposure to the research facilities, academic resources and interdisciplinary research environments available at IIT Roorkee and the University of Calgary.

Commenting on the agreement, Prof. K. K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, said that the Joint Doctoral Degree Programme is an important step towards building a stronger and more strategic academic partnership between the two institutions. Officials from IIT Roorkee and the University of Calgary congratulated each other on the agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding academic mobility and collaborative research.
