History of SSC

The idea for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) was introduced during a 1967-68 parliament session. In 1975, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms officially formed the commission under the name Subordinate Service Commission. However, on September 26, 1977, it was renamed the Staff Selection Commission. Starting from June 1, 1999, new rules and functions were implemented for the SSC based on several reports. Currently, all SSC examinations follow the guidelines set in 1999.

Headquarters and Regional Offices

The main headquarters of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is in New Delhi. The SSC has several Regional Offices across India, including key locations such as Prayagraj, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Guwahati, and New Delhi. Additionally, the SSC has sub-regional offices in Raipur and Chandigarh.

Eligibility and Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) offers over 20 types of jobs across India, covering non-gazetted and government positions. To apply, individuals need a graduation certificate from a recognized university or board. Some jobs, particularly those in roles like sub-inspectors or in the Narcotics Department, also require candidates to pass physical fitness tests and meet other standard qualifications.
