About NAAC

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) reviews and accredits higher educational institutions like colleges, universities, and other recognized institutions. NAAC’s goal is to understand the “Quality Status” of these institutions. They evaluate how well the institution meets quality standards in areas such as educational outcomes, curriculum, teaching methods, faculty performance, research, facilities, resources, management, financial health, and student services.

Establishment

NAAC was established as a result of the National Education Program in 1986 and the Program of Action in 1992. To implement these programs through various strategic policies, a national accreditation agency was created. This led to the formation of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1994, with its headquarters in Bangalore. NAAC operates as an independent institution under the University Grants Commission (UGC).

History

The National Education Policy recommended the formation of NAAC in 1994. The policy’s main goal was to improve the declining state of education in the country.

Need of NAAC

India is the largest democracy in the world so to cater the large demographic dividend in the country we require NAAC. some of the crucial reasons of having NAAC are as follows-:

  • Large and diverse education system of india 

  • Privatisation in the education sector

  • Wide expansion in the field

  • For increased autonomy

  • Introduction of new programmes to give education to all

  • Improved access to quality education

So in order to fulfil the above arnda the government came up with the concept of NAAC.

Vision

NAAC’s vision is to make high-quality education a key characteristic of Indian institutions, similar to those in Western countries. They aim to achieve this by encouraging both external and self-evaluation of institutions, helping them improve through this process.

Mission

NAAC ‘ s Mission has certain key points these are as follows :-

  1. Periodic Assessment of higher institutions, Universities or some academic programs or projects

  2. Creation of an academic friendly environment that in turn will help in promoting better  teaching – learning and research in higher institutions.

  3. Encouraging innovation , accountability , self autonomy and freedom to explore and self evaluation for growth of the institutions.

  4. To collaborate with other organisations for betterment in terms of evaluation , assessment and growth .

  5. To promote Quality related research , training and programmes.

NAAC wants to promote these below mentioned core values among all the Higher education institutions in the country:-

  • Excellence – In terms of faculty, education, infrastructure, etc 

  •  Technology -Promoting the use of cutting-edge technology so as to get an edge in the research work 

  • Value system- Inculcating a value system in students and faculty that will promote learning culture in these higher education institutions

  • Competitive environment- Fostering a competitive environment at power with the global level so that the students can compete at global level

  • National Development -The agenda of developing these world class institutions in the country is to help in the growth and development of the youth of the country that finally will cause growth and development of our country 

NAAC CAMPUS

The NAAC campus is located in Nagarbhavi, opposite the National Law School within Bangalore University. Spanning five acres, the campus is designed with sustainability in mind, focusing on carbon-neutral and eco-friendly principles. It also features a garden, an eco-sensitive area home to around 300 exotic and regional plant species.

The current chairman of the executive committee is Bhushan Patwardhan with S .C.Sharma as the director and professor M. Jagadesh Kumar as the president .

Working

NAAC operates through its Executive Committee and General Council, which include top policy makers, educators, and academics. The President of the UGC, Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, also serves as the President of NAAC’s General Council.

Grading

NAAC grades educational institutions using an eight-grade scale. Each grade corresponds to a specific range of the institution’s CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). The grades are as follows: A++ (3.51-4.00 CGPA), A+ (3.26-3.50), A (3.01-3.25), B++ (2.76-3.00), and so on. Institutions with a CGPA of 1.50 or lower are not accredited.
